At the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders) end of year event the sales figures for 2022 certainly made some interesting reading. The Nissan Qashqai was in top spot, with the Vauxhall Corsa, Tesla Model Y, Ford Puma and the Mini Hatchback in 2nd to 5th place respectively. It is interesting to note that the Corsa was top in 2021 but had a tough end to 2022 with reported supply problems, whereas the Qashqai had a very strong finish to Q3 and a strong Q4.
It is always interesting to see the winners and losers, the Tesla Model 3, VW Polo, Toyota Yaris and Mercedes A-Class were all in the top ten in 2021 but fell out in 2022, and the new entrants to 2022’s top ten cars included the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Tucson, the Ford Kuga and Ford Fiesta.
The Qashqai is of course built in the UK, which is great to see and interestingly seems to also feature very high in the league tables for Leasing.
